Psalm 74 - Blah, blah, blah...

This morning, I have been preparing the lesson for Sunday School class tomorrow. Its focus is on recognizing that all of the solutions to our anxieties, worries, and fears can be found in the Word. It seems like so much of the Psalms have been one expressed fear and anxiety after another.

It just came to me that through 74 chapters I have not seen where God has once uttered,
"Quit whining... man up"!!

No, it seems like he allows the psalter to continually pour out his anxieties so that once again he (the psalter) will discover that God is faithful and always available and willing to rescue us from whatever it is that has us so bent out of shape.

Chapter 74 is chalked full of the questions Asaph boldly asks of God. This chapter reminds of a sniffling, whiny, spoiled child crying to his parent while the parent patiently waits ....
"ok, go ahead, get it out of your system..."

vs. 1 Why have you rejected us forever, O God?
Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?
(blah, blah, blah...)
vs. 10 How long will the enemy mock you, O God?
Will the foe revile your name forever?
(blah, blah blah...)
vs. 11Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand?
Take it from the folds of your garment and destroy them!
(blah, blah, blah....)
vs. 18 Remember how the enemy has mocked you, O Lord,
how foolish people have reviled your name?
(......)

And He waits patiently for me to finish so that He can speak words of comfort, instruction, and grace to me!
